A Taste of Warm Weather

I am just catching up on some back blogging.  A couple of weeks ago we took advantage of a semi-warm afternoon and headed to a park near our house.  Travis, of course, had to take his fly rod because there is a small fish pond at the park. He didn't have any luck but we had a great time at the park. We played on the swings, slides and the motorcycle springy thing.  There was also a place house there for the kids to use.  Sawyer went inside sat on a bench and said "House, House, House".  I love that he is getting more familiar with words.   (Sawyer had touched the lens of my camera, hence, the fuzzy pictures)

Helping Dad fish.  If  there is a fishing pole around Sawyer needs to be holding it.  He is so funny about that.  He loves to catch "Big Fish".

Bringing A Smile To My Face

Sawyer does some of the cutest/funniest things I just wanted to document them so I don't forget so I can have some blackmail at birthday parties, weddings, Prom dates, etc.

A few months ago I was painting my toenails when Sawyer was actually awake.  (That never happens, can you imagine an open bottle of paint out for a toddler to grab?)  He was pretty distracted and it was a dire necessity that I painted my toenails right then.  He decided he needed his toes painted too though.  I tried to tell him only moms paint their toe nails but he wouldn't have it.  I grabbed a paint that was not too conspicuous, glitter that isn't soo glittery, so Travis didn't have a come apart that his son had painted toes.  I painted his big toes and the toe right next to it.  He thought it was amazing.  He blew on them and then kept pointing to them and wanting his socks off so he could see them.  Several times after he has come to me with toe nail polish to paint his toes.  What have I started?  I usually try to distract him with something else.

Sawyer on morning was eating his banana while I was unloading the dishwasher.  He got done and ran around for a bit.  The next thing I know, he has the cereal box by the dishwasher trying to eat cereal out  of the box with the spoons he kept taking from the dishwasher.  I guess he was hungry.

This one happened just the other day, March 7, 2012.  Travis and I decided we really wanted to go to the movies for a little time together.  My friend graciously watched Sawyer even though it was pretty late, the movie started at 7:15 and was a two hour movie.  Anyways, when we got back Sawyer had apparently had enough playing and was tired because he had asked for his jacket and shoes to be put back on and his hat.  When we came in to get him he grabbed his diapers and wipes and went to the door like "Come on guys, it is bed time."  I felt bad because we stayed a few minutes longer but I thought it was funny that he was like okay if I get all my stuff together maybe they will take me home to sleep.

Yesterday Sawyer found a bike helmet in the garage and decided he needed to wear it.  He wanted to ride my bike but I told him it was little too big for him.  I grabbed his little scooter/walker thing, which we do call his bike.  He rode it like a scooter with his helmet.  He thought it was amazing.  He would go to the end of the driveway where the sidewalk slopes to the road and then back up and ride to it again.

When I change Sawyer's diaper it is in his room.  I then take his diaper to the sliding glass door in our room and take it to the outside garbage to avoid it sitting and stinking up my house. The other morning  I got up after changing his diaper and headed to my room, without the diaper, to make my bed since it was just a wet diaper not as necessary to take to the garbage immediately.  Next thing I know Sawyer is at my door asking to go out.  I thought, seriously child it is freezing out there you can't go out there, but then I realized he brought his diaper and wanted to deposit it in the garbage can.  He is always so helpful and so observant.

Travis got a fishing magazine in the mail last week.  Travis was pretty excited but not as excited as our little guy.  He sat on Travis lap and looked at the whole magazine with him.  He has even stolen it from Travis a few times.  I swear we have not forced fishing, hunting, and sports upon this little one, he is just all boy.

I burned my finger while making dinner a couple of weeks ago.  I bandaged it up to keep from hitting it on everything, it is amazing how often you really hit your hands on things.  Anyways, Sawyer noticed that i was wearing this band-aid.  He immediately said "owie" and headed to my bathroom where we keep the band-aids.  He kept pointing to his leg and saying "owie, owie, owie".

Travis loves to hide and scare me.  He is trying to teach Sawyer how much fun it is and how to do it.  I can usually tell where they are hiding though because Sawyer gets so excited he starts making noises or he keeps putting his finger to his lips and saying "ssshhh".  It cracks me up.

Lately Sawyer has been extremely interested in the toilet and flushing it.  Even while you are using the bathroom, yes it is true there is no privacy when you have children.  The other day he grabbed some toilet paper and wanted to wipe my bottom for me.  I just lauged, seriously kid, where do you get this stuff.  Yesterday, Travis went in to use the bathroom.  Sawyer followed him in there saying "pee, pee". Travis took off his diaper to see if we would actually go in the "Big Potty", a little early I know.  Sawyer didn't but when I put him down to put his diaper back on he went back and stood by the toilet to be just like dad.

Growing Belly

This baby is growing, growing, growing.  I feel so crowded already.  It is the weirdest feeling to feel claustrophobic in your own skin.  I swear this baby is standing straight up and down with her feet on my bladder doing Irish Step Dance and her hands out stretched so she can push up on my lungs.  Is it normal to feel out of breath at only 22/23 weeks?
Other than feeling crowed though I feel pretty good.  I have had some aches and pains but that is to be expected.  The doctor reminds me every time I go in that the second pregnancy wears a bit more on the body so I will be more uncomfortable, I wish someone would have told me that before I got pregnant.  Sawyer and I still get out everyday for a walk/jog, weather permitting.  We love getting some fresh air.

Jumping Kangaroo

Sawyer has discovered the wonderful world of jumping on a bed and doing tricks, which is funny because he doesn't really like the trampoline where you can get some real air.  He only has one real trick right now but he thinks it is amazing.  He is so funny.  He has to get himself ready, almost psych himself up, then he will start jumping and land on his bottom.  He has come really close a few times of kneeing himself in the face, that won't feel good, but so far so good. Last night I caught him jumping and landing on his bum in the front room.  That can not feel good! I cringe just thinking about it.  Kids are so resilient.

Don't mind the laundry on the bed, just some extra padding.

March Comes in like a Lion....What else

March came in a like a lion up here in the northern country.  I am not complaining though.  I have been waiting for some snow all season, it has been the strangest weather year- signs of the times. ( Maybe the Mayans had it right and the end of the world is upon us  dun dun dun just kidding) It snowed on March 1st/2nd so we woke up to a beautiful white blanket of new snow.  Sawyer wanted to play in the snow the second he got up, eat the snow is more like it.  We didn't think the snow was going to last very long though because the sun was out and it was melting like crazy.  Travis decided we couldn't wait until Saturday to take advantage of the snow so after he got done with school we headed up to an amazing park in Logan, Gibson Park, to try our luck at sledding.  We shouldn't have worried about the snow not sticking, while we were sledding the clouds decided to drop their heavy load right on us.  Sawyer was not such a big fan of sledding down the hills but he did enjoy eating the snow.  Go figure, it may have been though because he was sleeping all nice and warm in the car and we woke him and and made him play in the cold just a guess though.  Some friends came with their kids but with kids being in the cold never lasts long, which is a relief for a cold mom like myself.

Saturday I decided I really wanted to try a bread recipe I found on Pinterest.  I am normally really bad at bread making for some reason.  Honestly, it is my cooking downfall.  I can cook almost anything else and it turns out (knock on wood- I have had a few pinterest fails in the recipe department) Needless to say I was a little skeptical but in the end it turned out great.  Travis decided he would take Sawyer fishing while I made the dough and then I would walk up to the pond while the bread rose.  That didn't happen because they decided to go to the pond that is about 9 miles away, I like walking but come on.  Instead, I followed the quick rise part of the recipe and while I waited I straightened the house, vacuumed, dusted, and did some laundry. (I actually had to let it rise twice and the baking took a little time too) I should make bread more often if it makes me that productive. I basically made bread from start to finish in about 2 hours.  I was so amazed and it actually turned out.  The bread was so good we ate one loaf for lunch/dinner that day.
Travis and Sawyer were successful at fishing as well.  They caught a rainbow trout.  Sawyer was so excited.  After Travis cleaned the fish he put it in the fridge.  Sawyer kept wanting to look in the fridge to see if the fish was still in there.  I did get a walk in while my boys took a much needed nap.  Later than evening we went and got ice cream at Charlie's.  I love that ice cream shop.  I have waited a whole year for the mint chocolate chip shake to be the flavor of the month there.  It was seriously just what this pregnant girl needed to end a great day.

Pinterest Fail...

I saw an activity on Pinterest that I thought Sawyer would really enjoy. You can see it here, Pin.  Basically, they play with pipe cleaners by putting them in the holes of the strainer.  Sawyer thought that was fun for about ten minutes then decided that shiny metal thing would make some awesome headgear.  He thought the strainer was amazing even though it was huge on his head.  Oh well, what can ya do?

Spring Or Winter

We took a little family outing to get rid of some old dry bread to feed the ravenous ducks and geese.  Sawyer was not having it to get down by the loud, snapping animals so he sat by me.  He even snuck in eating some of that old bread, as you can see in the picture.

The day after feeding the ducks we got a bit of a snow storm.  Travis shoveled the driveway into a pile and continued to pile our yard snow so Sawyer could have a little sledding hill.  Our neighbors, the Rowleys, were out shoveling their drive as well so he offered up his service and expertise.  It was pretty funny watching the men work, they are both Civil Engineering students so they were making a sound structure with a nice base that would last and not just piling on the snow like most people would have done, or just me.  Sawyer and our neighbor's little boy had a blast playing on the hill.  Sawyer decided why wait for dad to get the sled ready for him, he would just go down on his stomach penguin style.  The things he thinks of at such a young age, it is amazing to me how their little minds work.  Needless to say, Sawyer cried when we had to bring him in for fear his fingers would be little popsicles.
